I’m Gema — a wedding and family photographer with documentary with a mix of editorial & true-to-tone approach. My name means “gem” in Spanish, which is where Gemsphotoco was born.
I believe photographs should feel lived-in and honest — images that capture real connection and grow more meaningful with time. Thank you for being here — I’d love to create something meaningful together.
Photographer for the nostalgic, sentimental and madly in love
About the photographer
Ever since I could remember, I have loved the work of photography. As a child I would try to get my hands on any disposable or digital camera. At 12, I bought my first point & shoot and have not put down a camera since. The ability of being able to freeze a moment in time & revisit the exact moment with the same emotions when viewing the image is an absolute gift and should be treasured as is. Happy tears, genuine laughs, quiet yet ever so meaningful moments are all so beautiful to me. Weddings days in specific encompass all those emotions and that’s why I’m so drawn to them. My greatest desire when it comes to my work is for my couples to look back at their gallery on their 50th wedding anniversary and feel the nostalgic euphoria of their wedding day.
A little bit more about Gema…
Born and raised in California, now calling New York home. I love how much variety NY brings to my work — the seasons, the city, the quieter landscapes. No two sessions ever feel the same, and that inspires me constantly.
California still has my heart, though. That’s why I open up select CA dates throughout the year, especially during the colder New York months.
When I’m not behind the camera, I’m probably eating (HUGE foodie here), chasing warm and tropical destinations, or watching movies with a grilled cheese and tomato bisque. Comfort food forever!
No fake smiles here.
If you’re not comfortable in front of a camera — no worries. I TOTALLY get it. It can feel daunting and a little scary, and that’s completely normal.
My goal is always to make you feel relaxed and natural during our time together. I’ll guide you with gentle prompts to get real smiles, giggles, and genuine moments — never stiff or forced poses. I communicate throughout the session to make sure you’re feeling comfortable and heard.
My clients often tell me they had so much fun during their session, and that’s always my aim. And fair warning — I will absolutely be saying “OBSESSED,” “HOW CUTE,” and “OH MY GOSHHH” more times than I can count.
